worldwide than Open learning. Through TED-Ed learning tools, students can
explore and seek information through many subject such as Mathematics, Teaching and Education, Social Studies and many more. It is a ready made information that has been publish by some people around the world. TED-Ed is TED'S youth and education initiative which aims to spark and celebrate the ideas of teachers and student around the world. Besides, TED-Ed has grown from an idea worth spreading into an award-winning education platform that serves millions of teachers and students around the world every week.

TED-Ed is a non-profit devoted to spreading ideas in short and powerful talk which is 18 minutes or less. TED began in 1984 as a conference where technology, entertainment and design converged. However, it covers almost all topic from science to business and global issues in more than 100 language nowadays.

On TED-Ed.com they are building a clearing house of free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers and community of curious soul to engage with ideas and each others both online and at TED and TEDx event around the world. In fact, everything they do such as

Their TED-talk to the project sparked by the TED-Prize

Benefits of TED-Ed in teaching

TED-Ed is an online learning tools that is suitable for teachers. It is a "lesson creator" platform that allows teacher to structure an assignment around  a video and assess students' engagement with the material. The lesson format consists of a lesson title, a written introduction ("Let's Begin"), a series of multiple choice or open-ended questions ("Think"), a place for additional resources to encourage further exploration("Dig Deeper"), an interactive class discussion ("Discuss") and closing ("And Finally"). They also can select from the special curated TED-Ed Originals section which is lesson co-created by educators around the world or else do a TED-Talk. As a teacher, they will notice whether their student complete their lesson by review a summary of the comment and result on their individual answers. Their students' response include an open-ended answer and they can download it and import the file into Excel.

With the obvious caveat that teacher need to have is find an appropriate video. This is a tool that can easily be adapted for pre-assessment, formative assessment or summative assessment purposes by altering the type of question that the teacher ask. For example, teachers can use the video prompt for a topic that they are just beginning and have students share with them what they know beyond the video's content. They can use it mid-way through a unit to measure progress towards learning objectives or they can use it at the end of a unit to challenge students to apply what they have learned to the context presented in the video.

Other than that, teacher also can search for ready made lesson that being shared on TED-Ed through the subject and every lesson on TED-Ed can be customize to meet the needs of the educators.

In my reviews, teacher can make their own TED-Ed Club through this learning tools in the school. This club purposes is to give the opportunity toward the younger in spreading their ideas. It is not just an adult that have a good idea, in fact the younger often hold up as a creative ideal in the TED-Talks itself if you browse it. Hence, TED-Talk is one of the platform to student in learning and out spoken their opinion to others. Besides they will learn all about what makes a great TED-Talk and will work on practicing their speech writing and presenting skills until they are ready to put on an event of their own. In doing so, students will not only gain confidence in their own ideas, but they’ll also be learning a lot about writing, discussion, storytelling and the skills you can translate into more traditional essay writing and analysis in other settings. The part is, the best speech of the student can be submit to be featured on TED-Ed, where they might win a presenter’s slot at TED-Youth and become a confidence booster to others.

Benefits of TED-Ed in Learning

Through the animated video in the TED-Ed or their YouTube, student can studies at their own pace, and help them with audio and visual learners because this is also a tool which contributes to both motivation and assessment, but only if the videos available are consistent with the curricular.
  •      Substitution:  Students will independently watch a video, answer written questions, and participate in online discussion — this takes the place of showing a video in class and having students discuss or be quizzed in class.
  •     Augmentation: As students discuss and answer questions about the video, a teacher can respond privately and individually. There is also a written record of the discussion and exchange which can be referenced as an assessment tool.
  •     Modification: Through embedded “video hints,” students’ attention can be easily drawn to specific segments of the video for independent review of complex elements of the video. The use of the “Dig Deeper” section of the lesson plans promotes independent exploration of curated resources.
  •     Redefinition: Students use TED-Ed to create their own lessons and share the link with classmates, peers in other schools, and experts in order to broaden the discussion.
Besides, student also will get benefit and knowledge in the learning activity in this learning tools such as in math, science, foreign language and others.
  • Math: Students watch a video that is either explicitly about a math concept or a subject which requires numeracy skills to understand. Students answer related questions which require calculations similar to those in the video.  Also see TED Ed Originals and TED Ed lessons for mathematics.
  • Science: Have students find a video which could be used to demonstrate a particular scientific concept (e.g., gravity) and create a lesson plan which is then shared with other students. Also see TED Ed Originals and TED Ed lessons for science and technology
  • Second/Foreign Languages: Students practice listening skills by watching videos of speakers in “authentic” scenarios and answering questions which require focus on particular content or constructions.
  • Other: Student groups are assigned with different videos on the same topic and reply to identical question sets. Once complete, students share and compare their answers either in an online discussion or face-to-face and discover in what ways the videos complement or contradict each other and suggest why this might be the case.  Also see TED Ed Originals and TED Ed lessons for social studies.
